Modern Engagement Rings

In the earlier times, the designs of rings were limited by the lack of technology and the tradition prevalent at the time. Now a days however, engagement rings come in a wide range of designs and styles. This guide will give you a brief overview of modern engagement rings available in the market place.
The ring is composed of two parts. One part is the central diamond or a series of diamonds and the other is the frame or the metal on which the diamond is studded.
The simplest form of modern diamond ring is the solitaire diamond ring. In this type a single diamond is set in the center of the ring. All the focus is on this central diamond and it is usually set with claws, allowing maximum exposure of the diamond along with light filtering on it from all sides. Another style for diamond ring is three stone ring. The three diamonds represent the past, present and the future.
Yet another type is the side stone ring in which a number of diamonds are studded on the sides apart from the central diamond. it is very expensive but represents true luxury.
Diamond is available in a number of shapes varying from round cut to cushion, radiant, square and heart-shaped cuts. It all depends on the design of the ring and your personal choice.
Choosing the frame is as important as the diamond itself. The metal mostly used for the frame is either 18k gold or platinum. 18k old is much cheaper than the platinum and has been traditionally used throughout history for engagement rings. It is 75% gold used with a metal alloy giving it strength.
Although platinum being quite expensive, is one of the strongest materials and very durable. It does not wear out over time. It can be easily polished and does not tarnish.
It is important to keep into consideration the total budget you have in mind before deciding on the type and design of the engagement ring you want. Price of the ring depends on a number of factors ranging from the number of diamonds, their size, their rarity, the mount etc.
apart from the metal used in the ring. As a general rule, three fourth of the cost of the ring is of the diamond and the rest is for the metal on which it is studded.
Finally the engagement ring you select will reflect your love for the person you are buying the ring for. It is once in a life time decision and should be taken after due diligence on your part.
