Lucrative Freelance Copywriting Jobs

While many freelance writers only focus on writing articles for magazines and websites, there are also many opportunities to use your writing skills as a copywriter.
The opportunities for freelance copywriting jobs are tremendous and stretches far beyond writing for traditional publishing companies (e.g. magazines, books, online zines).
Every company, no matter how small, must communicate with its target market. And every other type of organization -- from non-profits to government agencies to colleges -- must communicate. The sheer number of businesses and organizations out there makes this a viable career on its own, or a great way to add additional sources of income for magazine and online writers.
Freelance copywriters work on a variety of projects and usually work closely with the marketing, communications, or public relations department within a company or organization. They must be able to write persuasive copy and present their client in the best possible light in the marketplace.
Here's a partial list of some of the projects that copywriters work on.
Website Copy
Freelance copywriters are often used to write the copy for a company or organization's website. The website may be a brand new site for a new company, or it may be a redesign and the client would like fresh content for their new site.
For one of my projects, I was hired by a non-profit organization in the social services sector to write the copy for their website redesign. It is a very rewarding opportunity to collaborate on such an important project.
Companies may also hire a copywriter to maintain their website by adding fresh content on a regular basis. Website projects can often be ongoing if the client understands the importance of maintaining a site with frequent content updates.
Press Release Writing
Writing press releases is a great way for article writers to supplement their income. Press releases are written in article format and are used to send announcements and news to the press. This means that the copywriter must take off their journalist hat and write from the company's point of view.
Some writers command as much as $500 or more per press release -- so this is a lucrative niche.
eBook Writing
eBooks are a very popular marketing tool for companies. Freelance copywriters who want to ghost write eBooks will find a large market of potential clients. Entrepreneurs who are web savvy are also potential clients. eBooks can be a well-paying niche if you work with a large client with a sizable budget for an eBook project.
Case Studies
Companies love to use case studies to illustrate how their products and services have helped real customers. A freelance copywriter will research the company and interview clients and employees to get background information. The writer will then write about the problem faced by the customer and how the company worked to solve the problem for the client.
There are many more opportunities for freelance copywriters in the business world. If you can market your copywriting services and deliver high quality writing that helps your client meet their business objectives, you'll be in demand.
