Every year thousands of Brits immigrate to Australia. With what seems like endless sunny days in Australia, its not surprising Brits are queuing up to go. But what do you need to be able to move to Australia?
The Right Skills
Australia welcomes UK immigrants to its shores but wants Britons who can contribute to the country and not have to rely on the state. Australia wants people with certain skills such as Nurses, Doctors and Trades people, so if you don't have skills that Australia need, then getting a visa to live there may prove difficult.
Money
Moving from the UK to Australia is an expensive business, which can cost around £20,000 plus for a family of 3-4. There are plenty of things that will loosen your wallet in the process such as visa applications, removal companies and flights plus you will also need money to support yourself and your family once you get there.
A Good Attitude
It is crucial that you have the right attitude before moving to there. Australia is not a sunnier version of the UK, it has it's own culture and lifestyle and important not to expect it to be the same as the UK. If you move to Australia with a friendly and relaxed attitude, chances are you will be welcomed by the locals.
Love Hot Weather
With over 300 days of sunshine every year, Australia can be a very hot place. With summer temperatures often 30 °C +, the heat can be intense, so if you don't like hot climates, perhaps Australia's not the place for you.
Reasonable Expectations
One of the biggest problems for some Brits is that they have very high expectations for what living in Australia could mean for them. Those that expect to be able to sell their 3-bedroom detached house in Britain and buy a 5-bedroom house with a swimming pool and beach views may be sorely disappointed. By doing plenty of research into house prices and the cost of living beforehand may save you a lot of disappointment later.
