Recalled vehicles have become somewhat commonplace in recent years. For whatever reason, it appears that many manufacturers have been charged with creating defective cars and trucks that have been deemed unsafe. One of the largest recalls currently in effect is being led by Toyota; 2.5 million vehicles are being sent back to the factory due the fire risk they present to drivers, and this does not include the additional 5 million that are being recalled for the issue of unintended acceleration that has led to thousands of accidents. It is important to note that many of the vehicles in Toyota's newest batch of recalls are coming back with recurring problems. If you have been injured in a vehicle that is part of any recall order by an auto maker, be sure to contact an accident lawyer as soon as possible. They will be able to help you receive the just compensation you deserve, as it is the primary responsibility of the manufacturer to ensure their vehicles are safe for driving.
The fire hazard risk has to do with the driver's side power window switch being defective in many car and truck models. These switches are not inherently dangerous, but the possibility for driver interaction is what could lead to a potential fire. The reason being that the switches were poorly designed and caused a sluggish feel when activated; Toyota noted that if drivers apply lubricants as a means to correct the issue (which was a compelling enough reason to warrant the recall), the switch assembly could melt and lead to an electrical fire.
What are some of the Recent Recalled Vehicles?
Toyota is not the only culprit, however, as there are many other auto makers that have been forced to pull vehicles off the market for varying issues. BMW, for instance, has made the move to recall 570,000 cars in United States and Canada for a problem related to the battery cable connector in these vehicles. The manufacturer stated that this could lead to engine stalls when the vehicle is in operation, a serious problem that could cause a dangerous car accident if left unfixed. Honda is not in the clear either, as they have launched a substantial recall as well, due to an airbag deployment problem that affected nearly ¾ of a million Honda Pilot SUVs and Odyssey minivans. Don't hesitate to contact a car accident attorney if you have been injured in any one of these vehicles for these issues.
